More than 40 investment projects are expected to be completed in Belarus' Gomel Oblast in 2023, Gomel Oblast Vice Governor Andrei Konyushko told a meeting of the regional executive committee to review the social and economic development of the region in 2022 and the task for 2023, BelTA has learned.
According to First Deputy Head of Belarus President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov, the projects underway should be innovative and produce goods with high value added and create well-paid jobs. He drew attention: it is necessary to cooperate more closely with large enterprises, not only regional, but also national, to bring production to the regions - for example, to produce individual components, parts, and import-substituting products.
According to Andrei Konyushko, a plan of 137 investment projects was formed in Gomel Oblast to fulfill the order of the head of state to develop new promising enterprises in each district. “Twenty-one projects were completed last year. Some 1,600 additional jobs were created. This year we plan to complete 44 projects with the creation of more than 1,000 jobs,” the vice governor said.
The region's task for the year 2023 is to reach a growth rate of 122.9% against the level of 2022, totaling over Br5 billion. “This volume should be provided by projects, the timely performance of all planned construction and installation works including import of equipment,” Andrei Konyushko said.
Head of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate Yuri Nazarov pointed out that it was necessary to attract commercial projects more actively. “There is a lot of opportunities in this area,” he is convinced.
