Belarus' NOC visits Babichi boarding school to wish kids happy holidays

Representatives of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus have paid a visit to the Babichi boarding school to wish Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to the kids, BelTA has learned.

The children received best wishes from NOC President Viktor Lukashenko, outstanding athletes, champions and medalists of the Olympic Games. The visit was organized as part of the nationwide Our Children charity campaign. The children shared the joy of the upcoming New Year and Christmas celebrations with Chairman of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation Alim Selimov, Olympic champion in aerials in Sochi 2014 Alla Tsuper, bronze medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling in Athens 2004 Viachaslau Makaranka with his son Hleb Makaranka, champion of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Greco-Roman wrestling in Baku 2019.

The program of the event featured Adventures in the Winter Garden, numerous funny competitions, and gifts. The Babichi boarding school received an interactive panel and a multiboard for its media class. The visitors also presented sports equipment, sweets and fruit sets.

The NOC Executive Board traditionally visits social institutions in the run-up to the New Year holidays to support children left without parental care. Over the years the representatives of the Olympic movement have visited boarding schools in different parts of Belarus and presented many useful gifts to help children in their studies and sport classes. For example last year sport officials and athletes visited Chausy. This year they headed to Rechitsa District that hosted the Vytoki cultural and sports festival.

According to the head of the NOC of Belarus, there is no institution in the country that has not hosted guests. However, there are places that do not have a lot of them. "We try to go there, despite the distance. Of course, we brought gifts, but in return we received much more - sincere emotions of the children. Over time, we forget what it is to be a child. We are very grateful to you for helping us to remember these emotions today," he said.

Traditionally the New Year's charity event Our Children in Belarus runs from 10 December to 10 January. At this time, New Year's performances are organized in all regions of the country. The heads of the national bodies of state administration and representatives of the local authorities visit orphanages and family-type houses, hospitals, foster families and adoptive families, congratulate the children on the New Year and Christmas, give presents and help them solve their problems. Public associations and other organizations join the charity campaign.
