The Belarusian national pavilion played host to Days of Gomel Oblast at the Expo 2020 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on 9 February. The negotiations with foreign counterparts and partners resulted in the signing of documents on cooperation and supply of products and agreements on cooperation, BelTA learned from the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
Gomel Oblast was represented at the exhibition by the region's leading exporters: producers of metal products, petrochemical and wood processing industry, confectionery and meat and dairy products, and representatives of the Gomel-Raton free economic zone.
During the opening ceremony of Days of Gomel Oblast, the head of the delegation Deputy Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Andrei Konyushko said that the region's enterprises have a great opportunity to make themselves known in the international arena, establish a dialogue with foreign business circles, attract investments, find strategic partners and develop areas of possible economic cooperation not only with the United Arab Emirates but also with other Persian Gulf countries.
The presentation featured the region's trade and economic, export and tourist potential, investment preferences of FEZ Gomel-Raton, products of the main exporting enterprises.
Representatives of the Gomel Oblast delegation held negotiations with foreign partners as part of a business matchmaking session. They signed documents on cooperation and product supplies worth a total of $200 million, and also agreements on cooperation between FEZ Gomel-Raton and the World Free Zones Organization (UAE) and the consulting company GlobalData PLC (London, UK).
According to the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, given the diversification of trade and economic relations of the region Gomel Oblast's exports to the United Arab Emirates soared 20 times in 2021 and exceeded $3 million. The main exports included wood pulp, dairy products and furniture.
