Belarus’ Gomel to twin with UAE’s Fujairah

Belarus’ Gomel and Fujairah of the United Arab Emirates plan to establish twinning relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Belarus Ibrahim Salim Al Musharrakh told the media on the sidelines of the 18th Gomel Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.

According to the ambassador, the UAE is developing cooperation with all regions of Belarus. Speaking about the most promising areas of partnership with Gomel Oblast, he said: “First of all, these are areas such as agriculture, agricultural technologies, food products, food security, ‘green’ technologies, and clean energy.”

The diplomat added that no documents were signed between the Belarusian region and the UAE on the sidelines of the ongoing forum. “But we have such plans. We are working on them. An agreement we are going to sign first is a memorandum on establishing twinning relations between Gomel and the Emirate of Fujairah,” Ibrahim Salim Al Musharrakh said.

The ambassador also got familiar with the products of more than 50 Gomel enterprises at the PromStroyAgro exhibition, including those of the chemical industry. “All the products on display are of very high quality. The Emirates are interested in the whole assortment presented here,” he added.

The 18th Gomel Economic Forum has brought together more than 400 participants from Belarus and 15 other countries. The business program focuses on the key issues of the Gomel Oblast development, including industry, export, innovation, investment, and also small and medium-sized business. The plenary part of the forum highlighted the prospects and possible areas of cooperation between Gomel Oblast and foreign countries. Partnership aspects were also discussed at the thematic sections highlighting production and construction potential, tourism and social sector, small and medium-sized business.
