Belarusian, Lithuanian cultural workers to share best practices

Belarusian and Lithuanian cultural workers will share the best practices. The possibility is stipulated by the program on cooperation in cultural affairs between the Belarusian Culture Ministry and the Lithuanian Culture Ministry in 2016-2017. The document was signed by Belarusian Culture Minister Boris Svetlov and Lithuanian Culture Minister Sarunas Birutis in Vilnius on 29 April, BelTA has learned.

According to Boris Svetlov, Belarusians are interested in the experience of restoration of historical and cultural legacy. There is a school of restorers under the aegis of the National Art Museum of Lithuania. Negotiations on arranging on-the-job training and joint projects are in progress.

Lithuanian moviemakers are also ready to cooperate with Belarusian colleagues. “We suggest using the movie studio Belarusfilm as a factory, as a base. We may come up with a joint project since we share the common history,” said the Belarusian Culture Minister. It is possible to make a good movie since the Belarusian and Lithuanian cinema industries can tap into state budget resources via tenders. Apart from that, considering the small market of each country the commercial success of the movie can be expected if the sides work together.

The joint theater project that can be implemented on the basis of the National Academic Yanka Kupala Theater promises to be interesting. Plans have been to arrange university student exchange programs.

Boris Svetlov added that the project to install a memorial plaque to Yakub Kolas in Vilnius is in progress already.

The celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing industry is another project that goes beyond the borders of Belarus and Lithuania. A major exhibition will be arranged in Minsk to mark the date. The organizers will contact all the foreign libraries that have original editions by Frantsisk Skorina for the sake of borrowing the books and digitizing them. The Lithuanian side will also take part in the project.
