Lukashenko: Belarus handles the social burdens and keeps supporting people

Belarus remains a people-oriented state and will continue supporting those, who need it. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in an extended version of the recent interview with the TV channel Rossiya. The extended version was aired by the TV channel Belarus One in the evening, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We have a people-first state. It is stipulated by all the documents. We have free education. Apart from higher education institutions to where we admit people on top of what the economy and the social life need. We have free healthcare and such manipulations, surgeries that cost a lot of money [are provided to citizens for free].”

At the same time the policy contains certain imbalances, which the president has identified before and pointed out this time. “I say it sincerely. And I say it now. Before the election,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out. “After all, people should bear responsibility for themselves and should try to be self-reliant. And if something didn’t pan out or the person is disabled or sick, then the state should offer a helping hand.”

“There is imbalance but I cannot abandon this policy. And then there is no need to abandon it. We can handle these social burdens for now. We handle it and people are accustomed to it,” the president said.
