Physical culture and sport

The region has 2 stadiums, 28 gyms, 6 gyms of the companies and organizations, children-youth cycling school, children-youth physical training club, sports grounds in the town as well as in the rural area.

Most popular sports in the region are cycle racing, volleyball, free-style wrestling, canoe and kayak rowing, table tennis, track and field athletics.

Graduates from the Kommunar children-youth cycling school often win oblast and republican competitions. They make a part of the country’s national team who upheld the honor of the country at European and World Championships. Konstantin Sivtsov became the world track cycling champion in 2004, Olga Gaeva – the best young racer in 2005.
